Chinese President Tweets, Too, Just Not On Twitter–It’s Banned

Twitter is banned in China–all sorts of culturally-polluting ideas might leak through the Great Wall if the government let citizens use it. So there are state-monitored local alternatives. And the President’s just joined one. A new era, perhaps?

Twitter’s free-wheeling, news-breaking, open discussion format is just incompatible with how the Chinese government would like its people to lifecast (and the anti-government Twitter-aided demonstrations in Iran must’ve resonated with China’s officials too) so it’s inaccessible from Chinese PCs. But there are local alternatives, like the popular Sina. The government monitors these services, and requires their owners to do the same “self-censorship” that it was trying to get Google to comply with recently, resulting in a fiasco that’s still not concluded (though experts now think they nearly understand the China-base cyber attack on Google that started the whole thing off).

Fox News: Pam Anderson Left Nearly Naked in the Cold After Fashion Week Show

Pamela Anderson was certainly the star attraction at the Richie Rich A*MUSE Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week on Wednesday night, as she worked the runway in a barely-there silver one-piece that exposed most of her breasts, tummy and thighs.

But what the former “Baywatch” babe probably didn’t anticipate was that she would be left hanging in the cold bathroom for over an hour afterwards as nobody could find her dress.

“Pamela was hovering almost butt-naked sipping champagne while everyone ran around frantically trying to find her clothes,” an insider dished. “She was able to laugh it off, but she had to wait so long that it was becoming a bit of a worry.”

10 Tips for Healthy Eating on the Run

1.) Watch Portion sizes. Your craving will likely be satisfied after you have finished a small order of fries, and you’ll save over 100 calories when compared with the super-sized order. The same holds true for sandwiches. Order the regular version or even a kid’s meal for yourself.

2.) Seek out deli-style fast food chains where you can order a sub or sandwich on whole wheat bread or a wrap, a lower-fat and lower-calorie option than fried food.

3.) Many fast food chains now offer healthy sides in place of the ubiquitous French fries. Take the healthy option. Or, if you can’t bear to give up the grease and salt, get the healthy side order too.

4.) Always order a side salad when eating at traditional fast-food outlets. You will be less likely to fill up on only the unhealthy items, and the salad will provide some fiber and vitamins to balance an otherwise unhealthy meal.

5.) Remember that chicken isn’t always a healthy choice. Many fast food chains offer fried breaded chicken sandwiches on white bread that are actually richer in fat and calories than a burger. Grilled chicken is a better option.

6.) Make it a habit to eat a piece of fruit, a bowl of cereal, or some lowfat yogurt before you set out to run errands. Regular eating can help you feel full and avoid temptation.

7.) Stock your car with bottled water and healthy snacks. Have a small snack before the cravings hit, and you’re less likely to pull into that drive-through fast food outlet.

8.) Consider a supermarket for your fast food break. You can pick up precut and washed fresh fruit or vegetables, yogurt, or lowfat cheese. Many supermarkets also offer sushi or other healthy prepared items.

9.) Hold the mayo. A tablespoon of regular mayonnaise has almost 100 calories!

10.) Don’t add a sugary, calorie-rich drink to an already unhealhty meal. Water is available everywhere and is good for you. Drinking a large glass of water with your meal will help you feel fuller earlier.

Obama Writing Health Bill to Skirt GOP Fillbuster

President Obama is working on health care legislation intended to reconcile differences between House and Senate Democrats that could be attached to a budget bill and avoid a Republican filibuster, according to a published report.

The president’s proposal, which is still being written, will be posted on the Internet by Monday morning, senior administration officials and Congressional aides told the New York Times.

By piggybacking the legislation onto a budget bill, Democrats would be able to advance the bill with a simple majority of just 51 votes, averting a Republican filibuster in the Senate.

The White House signaled Thursday that an aggressive, all-Democratic strategy for overhauling the nation’s health system remains a serious option, even as Obama invites Republicans to next week’s televised summit to seek possible compromises.

“It will be a reconciliation bill,” the Times quoted a Democratic aide as saying. “If Republicans don’t come with any substantial offers, this is what we would do.”
